Why Reddit is worth monitoring separately
Reddit threads tend to be longer and more specific than posts elsewhere. Someone asking "has anyone switched from X to Y?" gets detailed answers from people who have, and those threads keep ranking in search and getting read long after they were posted.
That makes Reddit useful for three jobs: catching product complaints early, reading unprompted comparisons with competitors, and finding the exact words customers use to describe a problem you solve.
Option 1: search Reddit by hand
Reddit's own search and a site search like "site:reddit.com yourbrand" both work for a one-off check. They stop working as a routine: you have to remember to run them, results aren't deduplicated between checks, and nothing tells you which new thread is the one that matters.
Manual search is fine for a brand with a handful of mentions a month. Past that, the time goes into finding threads instead of reading them.
Option 2: track your brand as a keyword
A social listening tool runs the search for you on a schedule. In Social Line, you add your brand or product name as a keyword and turn Reddit on for it. Public posts and comments that match are pulled in from across Reddit, not a single subreddit, and each one arrives scored for sentiment and estimated reach.
Set the schedule to match how fast you need to know. A brand name you want to watch closely can run as often as every 5 minutes; a slower-moving product keyword can run once a day.
Cut the false matches before they reach the feed
Brand names often collide with ordinary words. Two filters on each keyword handle most of it: "must also mention" only keeps a post if a second word appears too (your product category, say), and "hide if it mentions" drops posts containing a word you know is unrelated.
Add misspellings and shortened names as their own keywords. Redditors rarely type a brand name the way its marketing does.
Track competitors the same way
Add each competitor's name as its own keyword. Comparison threads then show up from both sides, and you can see whether complaints about a competitor are ones your product already solves.
Tagging mentions with categories like complaint, feature request, or comparison turns the feed into something you can count: how many feature requests mentioned exports this month, for example.
What this approach doesn't cover
Only public posts and comments are in scope. Private subreddits, chat, and DMs aren't visible to any listening tool. Sentiment scoring also has limits on Reddit in particular, where sarcasm is common, so read the high-reach mentions yourself rather than trusting the label alone.
